Boyfriend sued over medical student’s death

Boyfriend sued over medical student’s death

A murder case has been filed against the boyfriend of Jerina Aradin Jerin, a student of a private medical college, over her death.
Jerin’s uncle Harun-ur-Rashid filed the case with the Kamalapur Railway Police Station on Sunday night, Sub-Inspector Alamgir Hossain told.
Apart from Jerin’s friend Kazi Mohiuddin Saran, his parents Kazi Jasimuddin and Shahana Begum have been made accused in the case.
Doctors at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital pronounced Jerin, 23, a first-year student of MBBS programme at the Uttara Women’s Medical College, dead around 8pm on Saturday after she was hit by a train.

Saran told reporters at the hospital that Jerin was hit by a Kamalapur-bound train while they were walking alongside the track-way in Cantonment Rail-crossing area in the evening.

He claimed that he managed to save himself by jumping on the road.

Saran first took Jerin to Kurmitola General Hospital and then to DMCH.

Police at DMCH Police Outpost detained Saran over his suspicious statement.

They said Saran completed his higher education abroad and currently is working for a private organisation.

SI Alamgir Hossain, also the investigation officer of the case, produced Saran before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Kazi Shahidul Islam on Monday with a plea to interrogate him in their custody for five days.

The judge approved three days’ remand rejecting Saran’s bail petition.

Hossain told reporters on Sunday that they had gone to the scene of the accident with Saran. “Though the youth claimed that the incident had taken place in Cantonment area, it actually happened in Khilgaon area,” he said.

“During the on-the-spot investigation, it was learnt that Jerin and Saran had an altercation around 5:45pm on Saturday. Eyewitnesses said Saran pushed Jerin at one stage of the argument.”

He said there was injury marks in Jerin’s head, right eye and right leg.

Jerin hailed from Nagarpur, Tangail. She was the eldest of two daughters and a son of their parents, Mir Kaykobad and Afroja Mir Merry, who reached Dhaka from Canada on Monday morning.
